Since its hugely successful launch, The Press Photographer's Year has been hailed as the definitive competition for outstanding photography taken for and used by the UK media. Designed by photographers for photographers, the awards would not be possible without the continued support of the sponsors Canon UK.
The category winners, together with many other powerful, moving, and sometimes humorous entries which form a comprehensive review of the year, will feature in the book Assignments 2 – The Press Photographer's Year.
This will be published by the PPY to co-inside with the opening of the exhibition at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Foyer on Saturday 16th June.
In addition to the exhibition and book, The Press Photographer's Year will be holding its inaugural “Expo Day” in the National Theatre's Lyttelton theatre on Friday 22nd June. This whole day event will be based around slideshow and multimedia presentations that will explore press photography's past, present and future. Canon cameras will also have a hands-on display all their latest professional equipment. Speakers will include award winning photojournalist Tom Stoddart, Roger Hutchings; chairman of this year’s The Press Photographer’s Year jury, Sean Smith; winner of the “Photograph of the Year” in both 2006 and 2007, and The Guardian’s Dan Chung; one of the driving forces behind the exploration of what “new media” can offer the stills photographer.
Tickets are £20 (concessions £10) and will go on sale from the National
Theatre box office Tel: 020 7452 3000 from 11th April. All those who
entered the competition will receive a free ticket.
